Background Music

A banquet, dinner party, art show opening, tea party or an open house are examples of events where RoJean provides background music for an added touch of class. Even when amplified, harp music remains in the background, allowing normal conversation levels for folks attending the event.

House Concert

Open your living room (or your front porch!) for a few friends and neighbors, and invite RoJean to present an intimate concert. You might consider making it a potluck gathering, or offer desserts and drinks for guests.

Sunday Morning/Evening Worship

RoJean can provide music in any of the usual places in a typical order of worship--prelude, offertory, anthem, special music, or postlude. She is also available to speak on either of the following topics: her faith journey with the harp; and/or the harp in scripture. Her presentations include harp music and scripture interwoven with the narrative, and she often takes requests for specific tunes.

Retirement Home Mini Concert

Several Salina area retirement homes invite RoJean and her harp for regular half-hour mini concerts for their residents. Her repertoire is generally geared toward the season of the year, the specific month, or a requested theme.

Motivational Speaker

A frequent presenter for clubs, organizations, and classrooms, RoJean offers a variety of topics including:

  • Here's a harp; exploring the instrument. Different harps for different functions. Explanation of harp construction and production of sound, with a demonstration of a variety of music on a lap harp and a floor harp. Overheads available, picturing various kinds of harps from ancient to modern, including double- and triple-strung, cross-strung, hand carved, folk and orchestral harps. (Elementary school age through adults)

  • ABC and 1-2-3; harp strings are arranged in alphabetical order. An exploration of sequencing in song. Accompanied call-and-response and familiar songs are sung with students. (Pre-K through 3rd grade)

  • Harp through the ages; its development from court music to roving minstrels to orchestra performance.  An overview of the history of the harp with a demonstration of music examples from sacred chant, Renaissance, Celtic, traditional/folk, blues, Broadway and classical traditions. (Middle school through adults)

  • Culture of the harp; exploring the harp from the perspective of its Celtic roots. Especially appropriate for the month of March (connecting with Ireland and St Patrick's Day). Identifies the importance of music to each culture, with information on the harp as a national symbol for Ireland. (all age levels)

  • Calming the soul; delving into the realm of the healing vibrations of the harp, the history and research on therapeutic music and current applications, illustrated with examples played on the harp (teens and adults)

CLASS - Community Learning & Skill Sharing

Sponsored by the Salina Public Library, CLASS sessions are open to teens and adults in the community on a wide variety of subjects.  Each semester, RoJean offers a Learn to Play the Harp session, for a Sunday afternoon hands-on discovery. Each participant is loaned a small harp, and will be able to play a song on it by the end of the session. Beware, though - harps can be addictive!

Memorial Service

Harp music provides a calming and gentle presence for an emotionally heavy situation. You may contact RoJean directly, or ask your funeral home staff to call her for pre-service music.

Harp Workshop

RoJean is qualified to present workshop sessions on such topics as

  • Learning to play the harp as an adult
  • Creating interesting accompaniment patterns with chord variations
  • Exploring improvisation on the harp
  • Getting started in music publishing; or, how do I get from my notes on the page to a score in your hands?
  • Digital downloads - instant music at your fingertips

Private Lessons

Interested in learning to play the harp?  Contact RoJean to schedule a complimentary no-obligation session to explore this potential for yourself.  You will have a chance to talk about finding a harp to rent/buy, your own best learning style, and frequency of lessons, plus any other related questions you may have.
